Chocolate and Liquor Tasting in the Disney Dream

"Indulge in the exquisite pairings of rich chocolates with premium Champagne and liquors—c’est magnifique!"

Above is how the Disney Cruise Line website describes Chocolate and Liquor Tasting, an adult offering on the Disney ships.

The husband ready for his tasting!
During our 5-night sailing on the Disney Dream, this beverage seminar wasn't advertised as being offered.  We learned about it from other guests during Mixology--click here to read more.  The other guests told us that they had sailed before and enjoyed Chocolate and Liquor Tasting and had made a request to Guest Services for the session to be offered on the cruise.  Voila!  So, when we went to sign-up, Guest Services was a bit surprised that we knew it was being offered.
The Chocolate and Liquor Tasting was offered in PINK, the champagne bar located on Deck 4 Aft of the Disney Dream

PINK is designed to look like the inside of plush pink champagne bottle and pays tribute to the elephants in Fantasia.  If you look, the elephants can be seen floating in the champagne bubbles on the walls.
When we arrived, the tables were set up with 4 glasses for each participant and solid and liquid chocolate and cheese for tasting.

This was our table. We worked our way through the different beverages, starting first with the champagne.  The task was learn about the liquor, taste, and then add a bit of chocolate or cheese to experience the differences in tastes and develop a preference.
After the champagne, a red wine was next, followed by port, and we ended the session with single malt whiskey.
We learned that we have different taste preferences.  My favorite was the port with cheese, although the champagne with white chocolate was quite good, too.  That's why some people put sugar cubes in champagne or enjoy mimosas.

The chocolate, along with the liquors, were top notch.  The chocolate goes for over $80 an ounce.
I got a photo of the four bottles of the liquors that we tried, just for the memory!

Chocolate and Liquor Tasting is an experience we would do again.  And, the lesson learned form this is if you do not see a beverage seminar that you want being offered, it doesn't hurt to ask.

"Mixology" On The Disney Dream

Now that the boy is getting older and wants to spend more time with his new friends at the teen club, Vibe, on board the Disney Dream, it allows the two of us to experience more adult activities.  One adult only activity we have discovered and we enjoy is Mixology classes.

During our day in Nassau, a Mixology class was offered in the Skyline Lounge on Deck 4 aft.  We signed up at Guest Services and got our tickets for the class.  Cost was $25 per person.  Be sure to take your tickets to the class!
When we arrived, the bar was set up for class.  We were going to make several different kids of drinks.

The husband was one for the first to volunteer to step in after the bartender gave us the instruction.

"Muddled" drinks were on agenda, featuring the mojito.  The bartender then showed us how to make different flavors, which appealed to me, so a raspberry mojito was made!
What was added to the raspberry mojito.

Layered drinks were also on the docket.  This is where I stepped in making a both a two layered and three layered drink.  I was proud of my work, but in the end, didn't drink it--didn't like the taste.

The photo below features each of us with our new creations, but the photo above demonstrates how things really went down--the husband got two of most of the beverages.  I would taste and then if I didn't like, he got to finish it.
We also met some nice people during class and learned of another class being offered that wasn't listed anywhere--Chocolate and Liquors--being offered during our at sea day on July 4.  We decided that class would be fun, too.

Be sure to check the Personal Navigator about the variety of beverage seminars being offered or contact Guest Services.  Beverage seminars and mixology classes are popular, educational, fun, and a great value for the amount of alcohol for price.

Mixology on the Disney Fantasy

On a previous Disney Cruise, the husband participated in the Whiskey Tasting seminar—click here to read more—and he was hopeful to do something similar on our 7 night sailing on the Disney Fantasy.  We were excited to see a listing of the various beverage seminars listed in the Navigator we received when we checked in at the port.

Either time got away from us or some of the sessions were full or the times overlapped other activities, but for whatever reason, the husband decided to take the Mixology class offered on the “at sea” day.  One of the times was 2:00 pm and I think he decided late in the morning to attend.  We called Guest Services and there was availability but he had to come to Guest Services in person for the ticket—to assure that he was “of age” to take the class.  This was different than when he registered for the Whiskey Tasting.  We also asked if I could go along, but not participate and was told that yes, I could.

So, shortly before 2:00 pm we headed to Skyline Lounge on Deck 4 AFT in the “adult district” and joined about 20 other people for Mixology.  The bar was set up, drink lists with recipes were handed out, tickets for the session collected, and Jerry, the host began the class.

The husband volunteered to make the first round of drinks as it included using the shaker.  After the volunteers finished, everyone got to sample the drink and another round of volunteers stepped up behind the bar to make the next featured beverage.

Jerry not only was the teacher of the class, but he was also part stand-up comedian.  Maybe that comes with the territory—being a bar tender on a Disney Cruise ship.  And, the two assistants had the empty glasses swiftly taken away.

The class lasts for a little over an hour, costs $15 per person, and each participant gets to sample five drinks.  We found Mixology on the Navigator on “at sea” days and offered twice on those days—2:00 pm and 4:00 pm.  All participants must 21 years old or older.

The husband had such a great time that I gave Mixology a try on our last “at sea” day.

Mixology is definitely on our “to do” list for our next cruise and we will do it at the same time.  And, it is such a bargain, it is highly likely the husband will give it a go more than once if possible.

If you find yourself in the class, be sure to answer the question about what is the most important thing behind the bar with “ice”!
