Autumn Acres in Oskaloosa

Fall doesn’t officially begin until September 21, but someone forgot to tell Mother Nature as we are experiencing fall like weather and temperatures in the Midwest. With those fall temps, come fall activities and festivals.

One place we like to visit in the fall is Autumn Acres in Oskaloosa. Autumn Acres is a part of Stram Greenhouse located 1.5 miles east of Oskaloosa on highway 92. This fall, Autumn Acres will open September 18 and will be open week-ends through the end of October. Cost of admission is $5.00 per person with children under 3 free. You can spend as much time as you like at Autumn Acres. There is a train to ride, a corn cannon, apple slingshot (you get a ticket to do both with your admission), a corn maze, corn box to play in, a slide, corn maze, a wagon ride through the corn, goats to pet and feed, a pirate ship to climb and play in, and pumpkin painting (for an extra fee.)

The wagon ride through the corn is fun and educational. We learned about corn and some of the over 100 different items grown at Stram’s.

You can purchase pumpkins at Stram’s as well as beautiful fall mums. You might even find a friend in the greenhouse!

When you arrive at Stram’s, park just in front of the greenhouses. Take the sidewalk between the greenhouses. There will be a place to pay admission to Autumn Acres near a side door to the greenhouse. Once you pay, you will get tickets for the corn cannon and apple slingshot. Autumn Acres is located behind the greenhouses.

There is a place to purchase snacks and drinks. Bathrooms are lovely porta potties located near the slide.

The train and wagon rides alternate, as it is typically the same person doing both. There is usually a clock on the back of the wagon telling the time of the next ride.

If you want to make a full day of it in Oskaloosa, head to Autumn Acres on October 9 and then stop at Penn Central Mall is Oskaloosa for the 4th Annual Kidtoberfest. Kidtoberfest offers lots of free activities for the kids in the mall. We did this on accident a couple of years ago. What a great discovery! If you have a train lover, like we do, the Penn Central Railroad Club will be running their O-Gauge and G-Gauge trains in the mall that day too!

When you're at Autumn Acres, ask about the "Candy Shoot."  You won't be disappointed!
