Disney Cruise Line--Blackbeard's Cay, Nassau, Bahamas

Disney Cruise Line has been sailing in the Bahamas since 1998 and one of its frequent ports is Nassau. On our visit to Nassau, we took a double decker catamaran to Blackbeard’s Cay to mingle with stingrays and play on the beach. The port excursion did not disappoint!

Nassau’s pier is such that the ship can pull up to the pier—no tendering.

We then took a short walk to the catamaran and found a spot on top.

While there were life jackets on board, we brought our own just for the ride to Blackbeard’s Cay. During the 20-30 minute ride, the boy spotted some girls across the boat that he would rather talk to.

We spied an abandoned observation structure. It was damaged in a hurricane and is no longer in use.

Blackbeard’s Cay is quite picturesque. . . blue water and sandy beach. The stingrays are the highlight, but there are other water sport activities available. Lunch is included in this port adventure.

Ah, the stingrays. Everyone is given a snorkeling vest and snorkel gear to go into the stingray area. You are welcome to pet the stingrays. They will actually swim around your legs and feet so you have to do the stingray shuffle while walking as to not step on them. They feel velvety. The feeding takes place a short time later and is in a bit deeper water. The boy and I opted for the beach during feeding time so the husband is only one who fed the stingrays. (Click here to read about our second time with stingrays.)

We brought our own sand toys and the boy had a blast playing in the sand. He met a friend from Atlanta.

We were on Blackbeard’s Cay for about 3 hours or so. Just the right amount of time. The boy fell asleep on the way back on the catamaran. The short cruise through the harbor gave us vantage to see our majestic ship and the famed Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

All in all, I would recommend this port adventure for families who want a bit of beach and adventure. The beach is excellent for children as the waves allow for swimming.

  2. It’s a great blog. Thank you for providing this information. A few weeks ago, I found myself in need of snorkeling gear. I began my search online and came across the Divers Supply website. They have a large variety of top brands and provide the products at the lowest possible prices. It was fun to try snorkeling gear, and I recommend Divers Supply to all looking for these products.
