Teppan Edo is a table service restaurant in the Japan Pavilion in EPCOT. The restaurant is attached to the Sushi Restaurant where the food prep counter changes color--so cool--but I digress. To get to Teppan Edo you either have to climb the towering staircase or take the elevator. We climb the steps. Once inside, check in for your ADR, because you did make an advanced dining reservation for either lunch or dinner, and wait for your party to be called.
Know that unless you are a party of 8, you will be seated with other guests, as the tables hold 8 people. They ask that children be seated on the corners, as that is the farthest away from the hot grill that your food will soon be prepared on. While there is a special children's menu with recognizable choices, our brave eater orders the chicken to be cooked on the grill along with noodles and vegetables. He has also eaten tempura--zucchini, cheese, chicken, and shrimp.
Once you are seated, your server will bring menus, followed by warm, wet towels to wash your hands. Drinks come soon, as do chopsticks. Note: they do not have chocolate milk and you can have a fork, too.
Here's our chef performing the many dicing, slicing, throwing, catching, spinning tricks that are a part of the dining experience. The part we like the best is the onion volcano--see photo below. After the volcano erupts, the chef usually makes a hidden Mickey. Just a bit of Disney Magic.
The food is tasty and filling. The service is friendly, not always fast, but friendly. The restaurant is bustling and noisy. Once you are eating, you might get to spy on the show at another table in your room, as typically there are 4 tables in each room. And, the bathroom is far, far away. Way down at the end of a long hallway. Just take that into consideration.

It can be fun visiting with other guests at the table, but if you are uncomfortable with that, this dining experience may not be for you. For us, it is just another way to turn strangers into fellow Disney fans.
Our upcoming focus this first Rich family trip to the World are character meals. It seems like it might be a good way to get out of the heat and avoid lines for my two sometimes impatient boys (W & JR) I am curious if you might make a list of which character meals you have done...I know that Chef Mickey's is your favorite, and I saw that recently the boy really wanted to enjoy Stitch! I am also toying with the following: Winnie the Pooh and Friends (Crystal Palace) Cape May Fair (Minnie and friends) Supercalifragilistic Breakfast (Mary Poppins/Alice/Mad Hatter) 1900 Park Fare and Little Einsteins at Hollywood and Vine. We are open to doing several and I have reservation possibilities at all of the above. Any thoughts from the family?
ReplyDeleteRich Family,
ReplyDeleteI am going to attempt to reply via the blog. . .I haven't done that before. Here is the list of character meals we have had while at the Walt Disney World Resort:
Chef Mickey's
Crystal Palace
'OHANA's
1900 Park Fair both breakfast and dinner
Garden Grill at EPCOT
Akershus at EPCOT
Liberty Tree Tavern (no longer has a character meal)
Cinderella's Royal Table--we have both lunch and dinner
Hollywood and Vine
Mickey's Backyard BBQ at Fort Wilderness
Tusker House at Animal Kingdom
The only one we wouldn't do again is Tusker House--service and food issues. Also, the boy has somewhat moved past the Hollywood and Vine characters--Little Einstein, Handy Manny, etc.
Happy Planning!
