Dreaming of the Disney Dream

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, The Disney Dream, made it home to Port Canaveral early Tuesday morning and is set for her maiden voyage on January 26, 2011. While we won’t be on the inaugural cruise, we will be there in spirit. We are also anxious for that cruise to be over, along with the short press cruises that will take place prior to January 26, as the internet will be brimming with the latest information about sailing on the Dream.

There have been some hints, some teasers, along the way. Mouseplanet.com (click here to read the article) had a great article this last summer of a Port Adventure that was available to guests aboard the Magic as it was sailing the Northern European itinerary. For around $4,000 each, guests flew in a private jet to the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, to tour the Dream as it was being constructed. Guests received their own personalized hard hats, met Captain Tom, and got up close and personal looks at the new ship.

Disney Parks Blog, the official blog for Disney Parks, has been publishing almost weekly posts dedicated to the Disney Dream with photos and videos.

Then there’s the Disney Cruise Line web-site, which has a series of videos, A Dream Come True, dedicated to introducing you to the Dream. This is great site to check out deck plans, etc.

As we are less than 200 days until our 4th Disney Cruise and our first aboard the Disney Dream, our family is definitely dreaming about the Dream. Just the other day the boy asked in the car, how long is was until we would be on the ship!

And, with definite excitement and anticipation, comes the ponderings, the wonderings. . .

• How will the additional 1,500 plus guests change the feel of a Disney Cruise?

• Will the boy like the new “club”?

• Will we get to sit in the balcony of the theater?

• What will it be like to take a bath and shower, including shaving one’s legs, in a round shower/tub?

• Will there still be a seafood buffet on the next to last day of the cruise?

• What characters will be on board? And, will the extra people mean longer lines to meet the characters?

• Will Photopass now be available on the ship?

Hopefully, some of the questions will be answered soon, as trip reports populate the web. Some of the questions may not get answered until we are onboard and experience the dream of the Disney Dream for ourselves.
