Cows, Goats, and Chickens. . . Oh, My!

The Poppin' Johnnies were at Bridge View Center and the live animals were too for Wapello County's 4-H EXPO.

Despite the 95 degree temps with heat index of 109, the boy sat on almost every tractor on display outside Bridge View Center.  We visited with several gentlemen and one started up one of the tractors before we left.

Inside the "barn" the cows, chickens, goats, sheep, rabbits, and ducks were doing just fine.  For a while, the boy was on cow poop patrol with another boy.  The point is to get the soiled hay out from under the cows before they lay down in it and need a bath.  The pigs were coming in after we left and since we are returning, we know we will get to see the pigs later.

Curious, I asked if someone stayed all night and the response was that yes, indeed, a handful of volunteers take the night shift in the "barn" to make sure no animals get unsecured and all is well.  It may storm tonight and I'm wondering what the "barn" will sound like with all the animals inside and rain pelting the metal building.  Sounds like a story to me. . .
